Remove your address from your resume!
I was recently talking to someone about the scams on craigslist where someone will post an item for extremely cheap and due to the low price many people will respond to the advertisement. Thus the spammer can collect all the emails and fill up your spam folder. I started thinking about it and realized that they could do the same thing with job postings, except there is a lot more sensitive data on one’s resume.
I also remember being instructed in college to include my address at the top of my resume. Upon thinking about this longer than 3 seconds I realized this is totally not necessary and in today’s game of sending out resumes, it could be dangerous.
For example (and not trying to be sexist here), what better way to get the name, phone number, and home address of hundreds of women then to put up an appealing administrative assistant position on Craigslist. Great Environment and located downtown…perfect. My email address gets hidden and I put a fake company name. Now I have a list of people ready to sell, with pretty close to a background check of information on them.
The point of this blog is not to scare you from using these sites (I love Craigslist) but to make you realize that you need to be careful with the information you post about yourself. Don’t send a resume if you can’t clearly see a legitimate company name and/or the email address of that company listed.
I’m learning more and thinking more about this subject everyday and I suggest you do the same.
Developers time to gear up for IE 11
It boggles my mind when I think of how much time is spent in the world making websites compatible with Internet Explorer. Think of how much hair has been pulled out. Well now that is all about to increase. Poor integrators. Have fun supporting IE6, IE7, IE8, IE9 and I’m sure IE10 beta all at the time. If only you could find a way to monetize based on how many browsers you support, you’d be rich!

Virtual Church?
After broadcasting our worship online for nearly three years, I’ve asked myself (more than once) is this really a good service to be offering the members of our congregation?
I sometimes feel that we are just giving our members an easy way out of coming to church. I also know it is very helpful to those who cannot legitimately attend.
I’m torn… Sometimes I feel we should just record the lessons and archive them on the site for later usage.
What is your take on Virtual Church? I’d love to hear some feedback about our service or just your opinion about it in general if you are not affiliated with the Ville-Emard Church of Christ.
